What is Solar Power or PV?

  • Solar Power or Photovoltaics (PV) is the name of a method of converting solar energy into direct current electricity using semiconducting materials that exhibit the photovoltaic effect.

  • A photovoltaic system employs solar panels composed of a number of solar cells to supply usable solar power.

  • PV systems range from small, roof-top mounted or building-integrated systems with capacities from a few to several tens of kilowatts, to large utility-scale power stations

  • PV systems are grid-connected, while off-grid or stand-alone systems only account for a small portion of the market

How a heat pump works:

  • A heat pump heats water by using energy efficient heating technology similar to that used in conventional air conditioners and refrigerators.

  •  A heat pump works like an air conditioner or fridge, but operating in reverse.  The by-product is cool air, where the by-product of an air conditioner and fridge is heat.

  • Heat pumps move heat (from the air) to the water in the existing geyser and use this geyser as the storage vessel for the hot water.

Heat pumps are so efficient because heat pumps do not create heat energy directly like an electrical geyser using an element.

What is a Solar Geyser?

  • Solar water heating is the conversion of sunlight into renewable energy for water heating, using a solar thermal collector/panel.

  • The collector or panel is usually installed on the roof of a building, whether the roof is pitched or flat.

  • The hot water is stored in a geyser or storage vessel.

  • Solar water heating systems comprise various technologies that are used worldwide increasingly.

What is a Hydronic Underfloor Heating

  • Hydronic Under Floor Heating circulates warm water through a closed network of pipes laid in the floor, heating the house or dedicated area.

  • It is a closed system, re-using the water in the pipes over and over and does not need to be refilled.

  • The water is heated by renewable energy sources such as solar or energy efficient heat pumps.

  • Heating your house in this manner is one of the best environmentally friendly ways reducing your carbon footprint.
